Is that just bypassing the initial setup of the Mac OS? And for the root password, do you actually type 'passwd root "? Sorry, probably a dumb question, but have to ask. Curious, but how stable would you say it is. I do have it working on my dell e, but notice every now and then, tiny little glitches in the UI. Is yours fairly stable?
Mine is very stable. Im running a plethora of applications and the system is working beautifully. Well, I have it in the instructions. If that doesn't work, try it again or search for a different AppleHDA. I'm reinstalling right now. I'm trying your instructions to a "T" Hopefully, we can get the sound working. Hey, another question, I have a xgt card, should I of selected that for the drive, or used your method? I'll keep trying until I get it working, and I'll post my results. Thanks for you help! At this resolution, the setup assistant is bypassed. Once you are into the Leopard desktop, go to system prefs to set ur admin password. Then reboot and start working on whatever else you need to do.
I suggest trying a different Leopard version. I hear JaS has a new version coming out am i right? If so, then i recommend trying this as I used to use his versions of Tiger as they were extremely reliable. But look around the forum for a different version, download it, and try it again.
Good luck! I had this problem, too. For me, at least, it was simple. I had the Kalyway Leo disk in the drive. I shutdown, removed the DVD and rebooted, hit F8 and presto Using the methods on these forums, I was able to turn my Dell that essentially was sitting in a box after I bought my first Apple last October, into a nice testbed machine.
Note: The media check will begin after you have finished the install. This ensures that the disk has all the necessary files to install OS X. If you have 1GB, then the actual install should complete in about 15 min. As it reboots, put the GParted CD in the drive. Click Manage Flags. Click OK. You should now be in Windows. If not, repeat steps 19 to If so, move along to the next section!
As of now, we have a working Windows install, but we haven't got any way to get to OS X. We'll fix that in this section. But first you will require either "chain0. Look for a file called boot. Right click on it and select Properties. This is apparently on the Kalyway disk, but it is very hard to get. Instead, download it from here RAR file or here zip file. Extract it then put the resulting file chain0 without any extensions into the root of the C: drive the same place where boot.
Alternatively, you could get this advanced tboot. Navigate to Mac OS X86 and when it says press any key, press the any key and select the option with the name you gave your hard drive in Disk Utility.
